No style is all powerful and anyone (including me!) can be beaten on any given day. However, the purpose of studying aikido is not to learn to “fight”. It is to learn to avoid conflicts through self control and inner development. However all that happy philosophical crap being said, let me point out that I teach, practice and compete in sport or kyogi Aikido (aka Tomiki Aikido) and it has it very legitimate merits in self defense situations, exspecially security or subject control settings. Since you are in Mansfield maybe you’d like to check us out at the Mansfield Area Y, on any Tuesday or Thursday, 7pm to 9pm. You might be surprised that it has more going for it than the “gay” techniques you reference. By the way, I agree with you about Segal’s movies: movies are fantasy, and most of what you see Segal do is correographed fantsy crap and therfore I’d never try to use only aikido in an MMA contest anymore than I’d take only a knife into a gunfight. Respectfully, Bob King, yondan, Mansfield Sport Aikido Club.
