In the past practising capoeira was a punishable offence thats why they had to conceal it. To the ignorant slave master it looked like a bunch of slaves “dancing” around but to the slaves they were learning a deadly form of martial arts.

Even after slavery was abolished capoerista’s were sometimes used as bodyguards to people in positions of power. So yeah it does look like we are”dancing” around but notice how quick cap playas are when reacting to an attack. viva capoeira!!!
