Leon, do you really think 6oz gloves are big pillows? I really don’t believe you’ve ever boxed anyone with any power. There is nothing fluffy about an overhand right with 6s on. Gloves are there to protect the hands, and nothing else. Gloves rattle your brain far worse than bare knuckles do. Knuckles cut, gloves thump. Any boxer will tell you a thump is worse.
Thanks for the science lesson, Dr. Biology, but training makes the difference.
Here in Thailand, trainers tend to try to batter you with the edge of the focus mitts. Nothing fluffy about that; they’ll cut you. If you get caught, you don’t get a shot of adrenaline, you get more aware of keeping your hands in the right place. Your fight or flight thing, as I said, is correct with regard to the UNTRAINED. Those responses exist as instinct until they are replaced with TRAINING.
That whole paragraph about inactive people vs. capoeira came down to your opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.
I love the whole idea of De La Hoya beating you not because of his boxing ability, but because of his training regimen. For all of your textbook science, you’re senseless. What you’re saying, in essence, is that you and De La Hoya are equal boxers, only he’s in better shape. HA! I tell you, there are a few old Thai champs (45-50 years old) who hang around the gym to check people out and talk to promoters. I’d love to see you go toe to toe with one of them. They haven’t fought in 20 years, but on experience alone, they’d lay you out. They smoke and drink constantly, but they’ve still got more than enough for you, dancerboy.
De La Hoya, aside from his “lion heart”(cute) hits and moves like a champion. He is a supremely talented fighter. Every guy he’s ever fought has been as well-trained and conditioned as he was. How do you explain why he won? If it’s all about physical fitness, what decided the victory? His “lion heart?” NO! His talent, his skill, and his experience, all three of which don’t factor into Leon’s reductive paradigm, which makes everything about conditioning. You really think that the “De La Hoya on the sofa” argument offers anything more than speculation? You think that kind of drivel means anything to anyone? And then you say I know why you would win. I don’t. You haven’t provided evidence of anything except that you are completely ignorant about boxing, clueless as to what makes a good boxer great, and what makes a great boxer a champion.
And Dr. Biology returns to offer more patronizing lectures on body parts! If what you say is true about the Xyphawhatsit, then Thai boxers would be getting killed everyday out here, because they train to slam knees into it. But they don’t die. The Xyphawhatsit is a valid target in other striking sports, too, and yet I still have yet to read of all the fatalities you say should arise from such “cowardly” strikes. Where do you get this “illegal” stuff from? Is this another one of your opinions?
I think you’re scared dancerboy, and you should be. I would sell my ticket home to get you in the ring here in Bangkok.
