My personal view:
There are many stories and speculations regarding the history of CLF. The one thing I personally respect about Gm Doc-Fai Wong’s approach has been that he only relies on fact-based information supported by evidence. If Eric has any question about the existence of so many forms, one only has to go to Gm’s web site and see them under the history of CLF section.
I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to witness the existence of the multitude of scripts Chan Heung created. Eric is correct, it would take a lifetime to learn all of them, but I do not believe that that was the purpose. The variety of forms were designed for use by various body types and individual capabilities best suited for the individual practitioner. Once a practitioner trained beyond the standard forms, there is an entire world of forms and techniques available to best utilize his/her individual attributes and capabilities. It, CLF, was developed very thoughtfully and thoroughly. Perhaps, that is one of the reasons why it is one of the few martial arts that has survived the test of time so well.
