I’m sure Doc-Fai Wong did, I realize I may have seemed too harsh without meaning to do so. Chinese History isn’t easy to follow, even under the best circumstances.
I’m in Guangdong Province now in the Panyu District doing research on the Song Dynasty, and more than once, I was on a wild goose chase on matters that seemed plausible, but after deeper research, the original idea perished into a murky past.
I don’t want to seem to biased though, but according to Martial Arts Legend Bruce Lee, “Choy Li Fut” was the only Martial Art that DIDN’T LOSE to Muay Thai Fighters.
I’d say that was a pretty serious indictment!
Although I had to stop my studies in Choy Li Fut around the Blue Sash Level in favor of returning to College where I got my Bachelor’s in both History and English Literature, there were two occasions where I had to use it, not serious though.
1) I broke a wrist grab from a problematic stranger on El Cajon Blvd (he was going to give me trouble) and I did it with such ease and textbook from my Instructors at the White Dragon School, that this guy did not want to see anymore and I walked away unharmed.
2) On the streets of Guangzhou, I ran into a problematic Buddhist Monk who insisted that if I took one of his plastic cards, I owed him money. This was ridiculous to me, and when he placed his hand on my wife’s shoulder, I cleared it away with an Anchor Hand without the usual accompanying grab. It was over then.
Of course, all Martial Arts can do this in one or another, but for me, it was due my Instructors in San Diego at the Choy Li Fut schools.
According to some researchers, the Qing Palace Guards were using Wu Tai Chi or some form of Bagua and Chan Heung’s forces lost. He does appear to be some sort of Middle Century Rebel and he may have lost due to other factors, which I’m sure were present.
