I’ve heard many different stories about Choy Li Fut, some sites have even compared it to Drunken Boxing. Of course, Zui Quan is Drunken Boxing, not Choy Li Fut; I would know because I’ve been taught a bit of it. Most websites you’ll find on it just have the same information posted, because they copied and pasted from answers.com. I am curious to know if the “Phoenix Eye Fist” truly originated in Choy Li Fut, or if it’s roots are in Zui Quan. I would like to see information on Zui Quan put on this site, but it may be a while before that happens due to the lack of information on Drunken Fist on the internet.

As for the five animal styles, it is hard for any martial art to claim that they created any of them, because they are used so often. I study a bit of White Crane, which originated in Tibet. There are more than five animals that I’ve studied. Tiger, Snake, Crane, Bear, Monkey are most commonly referred to as “The Five Animals”, but each one is deeply rooted in one style; NO STYLE CAN TEACH ALL FIVE AS THEY ARE ALL GEARED TOWARDS ACCOMPLISHING DIFFERENT GOALS. Tiger style is based around power, Snake is based around stealth and precision, Bear is also based around power (though it uses different muscles than the Tiger Fist), Crane (White/Black/Northern or Southern) revolves around balance, and grace. Monkey, the most advanced of these styles (perhaps with the exception of some Tiger practicioners)has a multitude of purposes in battle, and requires great acrobatic talent and flexibility.
