Yeah, MMA guys, why don’t you stop pushing martial arts into the realm of practicality and ruthless efficacy? Why don’t you guys spin kick..stop..point..bow..jab..stop..point..bow…lather..rinse..repeat? MMA is the future, not TKD or Karate.

Roots? The guys who developed these systems didn’t have roots in mind. They needed to win to stay alive. Don’t be so sentimental.
International tournaments? Muay Thai kills all comers in stand-up fights; everyone knows that. Watch K-1. That’s why it’s the unofficial stand-up game while BJJ is the unofficial ground game.

That said, I do agree that MMA fights are not as fun to watch, though not because of punches to the face. It’s just that most of these guys have no style, especially the muscleheads. They have artless, sloppy power (not that I would want to be on the other end of it) and the groundfighting gets sleepy. I’d rather watch a couple of skilled, 125lb Thai boxers go at it any day of the week. But I cannot deny the direction of martial arts, nor its most adept all-around fighters–the MMA guys.
