Hapkido uses the attackers momentum to throw them or lock them. We also have elbows, low kicks and knee strikes. If you are caught in one of our small joint locks you are toasted.
It is a great system used by Military and Bodyguard. It is effective.
Sure you can use it to defend against thugs…but make sure you crosstrain for the ground…(70% of fights end up there).
Did you see Ong Bak Warrior 2 movie???…He uses many joint dislocation and breaks similar to Hapkido.

Can you prevail with only Hapkido in the street……YES!…

if you want to go to tournaments: K1, Lumpinee stadium with it…no…you need to cross train. Hapkido has many small joint manipulation not allowed in tournaments, if there where to be allowed story will be different. So the majority of our arsenal is standup grappling, take these away …there is no Hapkido.
