In response to Thomas ide it feels like Shotokan but is much different. The footwork is different the hand movements are very much different they feel more uncoordinated until you get used to them. I practiced Shotokan for many years, changed to Tai chi chaun and now practice Bagua and Hsing Yi Chaun as well as tai chi.
Hsing Yi is the more external of the three as well as the most strenuous. Although the movements should be relaxed as you do them. The same theory applies applying the force at the moment of impact with Shotokan.
At this moment in time I enjoy the circular movements of Bagua Zhang and all the different palm changes to the other martial arts I’ve practiced over the years…If a person was to come to me now and ask me for my recomendation as to what style of martial art or kung fu to practice I would highly recomend Bagua Zhang.
Bagua gives you a reason to walk around in circles and show’s you the applications to go with the flow of them. I love it.
