history lesson! back in the day, when japenese judoka first started competing with western wrestlers, they usualy lost. Many judoka teaching abroad began training in western wresting styles, they incorporated these and started winning again. One of these was mitsuyo maeda, who was the teacher of the now famous gracie family. bjj isn’t technicaly linked to traditional jujitsu. It’s a combination of judo and cacc (catch as catch can wrestling, used by sakaruba and shamrock, also the basis for american freestyle and shootoo).
