actually i was told, that the reason the “american/chinese” versions of the art are spelled with an n, is because chow did not have the money to republish his book, which had a misprint, so he just left it kenpo. when actually it is “technically” supposed to be kempo, and pronounced kempo.
just what i’ve heard

i like kempo becuase, in a great part, it is american, hawaiian.
it is not as linear as shotokan or taekwondo for example. it uses both linear as well as circular movements.
but one of the biggest things in my opinion is, that the strikes are rapid and in sequence in relation to your opponents reaction to your strikes. meaning, if i kick you in the groin, i know you are going to bend over…right into my upward moving elbow.
also there is no retraction before striking, you strike from wherever your hand is when you need it.
