A quote from an earlier post:
“KM guys don’t specialize and drill their punches nor do they move like boxers. Why do you even bother comparing? I believe that KM is great for hurting people who are trying to hurt you, but you’re reaching with this idea. Stick to knocking guns out of people’s hands. It’s what you guys do well. I don’t know how to do that. Just like you guys don’t know how to throw decent hooks.”
This may be true to some degree, for “kravists” who choose not to train for all the system is worth, but it is not true across the board.
The school I train at also has a “fight” class which is basically MMA type fighting. We work extensively on technique (punching included) in both Krav and fight, and the standup in Krav (punching) is based on western style boxing. Additionally, many of the people I train with, including myself, do more than Krav a couple of times per week. What do you think happens after you disarm someone, or break free from a choke hold? Is the confrontation over? Hell no! I’m just gettin’ warmed up! Krav isn’t just self defense; it’s self defense and fighting. The fighting part (combatives) are trained and drilled esxtensively. So to say that we don’t “specialize and drill their punches nor do they move like boxers” or that we “can’t throw a decent hook” is not only incorrect, it’s either uninformed, arrogant or both.
I wouldn’t want to go 12 rounds with a trained boxer, in a ring, with rules - Gladly meet one on the street though - Armed or otherwise …
