Hi David, well practising Kung Fu requires alot of dedication and self discipline. You need to practice day in, day out just to even begin to understand the essence of it. A nice understanding of the culture can help you have a better understanding of the art and you would begin to accept these. Kung Fu though is different to Muay Thai because there is alot to it than just punches and kicks. Kung fu would help you understand that instead of just a normal block or kick, there is countless ways to turn that attack around. For example, you could come and approach me to throw a punch at me, instead of just blocking it and reacting I could swiftly move around your arm and put you on the floor with a slight tap. Or I could simply lean against it, grap your hand and snap your fingers. These things take years of training and only through the right teacher would you learn. Also, Kung Fu teaches what’s known as forms. These are sort of similar to katas except all the moves are blended and executed continously for maybe up to 100+ moves.
They also focus and dealing with a variety of factors such as timing, spacing, judgement and force. All these will help make you a better fighter.
