One of the biggest misconceptions about Ninjutsu(not Ninjitsu) is that it was practiced at first as an unconventional way of looking at things and accomplishing them. It didn’t formally become an actual combative art form until 1100 A.D.(Not surprising considering all of the Chinese/monks/priests/soldiers that fled during that time.)
It’s actual invention still remains a mystery as to whom actually developed the higher aspects and, turned into a form of guerilla warefare tactics) Not unlike Shaolin Gungfu which doesn’t really have a dominant successor to it’s name either.
Next issue I am going to tackle here is that the Ninja actually abhorred violence and only struck out when necessary to protect their homes and families. The Samurai hated the fact that these fun loving naturalists existed and would do anything to crush the native influence they had on the locals.
The Ninja belief system which is related to Tendai (or chinese Tentai) is of the heart lotus sutra. Meaning these people that practiced Ninjutsu where probably the farthest thing from ruthless killing machines we all wanted to believe them to be.
Takamatsu Sensei the man who learned what was known as Northeren Koga and Iga Ninjutsu was also a devoted spiritualist as well. Once he found a successor worthy of sokeship Masaaki Hatsumi Sensei he then bestowed the title of grand master upon him.
Most of us want to take up this fight of arms because we justify what we want to believe as to opposed to what is actually real. For those students whom do practice Ninjutsu for shame on you trying say something that is very uncharacteristic about the time honored tradition taught to help improve life not take it.
