Mike Young, a Savateur, among other areas of martial expertise, and a columnist for at least one MAs publication, wrote an article on the efficacy of Savate kicking techniques, in particular the foutte or Coup De Paid Bas, or something like that, and how he used it to break ribs during Savate competitions.

Basically, any martial art can be used to inflict maximum damage, or it would exist. To classify as a MA, it would at least have had to have had some martial effectiveness. What determines the result of a confrontation has more to do with individual combatants than the MA itself. All arts have strengths and weaknesses and, though I prefer my own African derived cultural MAs, it would be foolish to assert their martial ascendencu over any others. A good Savate kick, well placed, by an experienced Savateur will have the same result as similar applications in Tae Kyon, Capoeira, Choy Li Fut, etc.

No MA has a monopoly on effectiveness.
