You are correct, just as there is absolutely no proof that European MAs (Pankration or otherwise) are the source from which non-European arts derive.

Given this fact, one wonders why there is so much effort in attempting to prove otherwise.

It safest to let an artform rest in the cultural environment in which it is found and/or derived and leave at that. Anything else borders on disrespect, IMO, to a people and culture. Unless the evidence is overwhelming to the contrary, I think this is the best way to appreciate a cultures achievements and to honor a peoples’ experiences.
