Yeah, well. I can’t say that I know who learned what from who, but I can definitely say that, if the picture of those Savate practitioners is an accurate representation of the generally accepted Savate technique for kicking and blocking, Savate SHOULD’VE taken more from anybody who knew anything about body positioning.
The way that guy’s kicking, half of his weight is being concentrated backwards, though inadvertantly, and the other portion, forwards. This literally halves the power of the kick, if not reducing even more damage. Furthermore, the blocker’s stance is absolutely horrible for too many reasons to mention, and he’s blocking something he has no need to block. You may notice that the kick is several inches too short to reach the defender. Thus, he should’ve done something more useful than a pathetic block on a blow that wouldn’t hit him anyway.
In general, I’m of the belief that every martial art has its strengths and weaknesses, so I’m just hoping that someone picked a bad picture of Savate technique.
