billymel, please stay off of M.A. sites. It is apparent that you know NOTHING about Martial Arts!!! Bodhidharma, an INDIAN Buddhist Monk, is credited for introducing animal fighting styles(Kung Fu) to the Chinese Shaolin Monks. Many countries have developed their own martial arts..not just the Chinese. The oldest recorded martial art was found in Egypt..of all places. While the Greeks and Romans had their own deadly martial arts, I suspect that the French sailors, most likely, learned the kicks from the Thai’s, Cambodians and Vietnamese. That whole area was called “Indochina” and was a French Colony. The Orientals, like the Thai’s, definitely learned the western boxing from the Europeans. Western Boxing blended with Thai Kicks…nice blend=modern Muay Thai.
