I study Savate and Muay Thai I have found that they complement each other to an extrodanery degree. Its not as you put it leaving one for the other its taking what works best from both.
As to oragins of variose martial arts there is no real way to tell what influenced what they have all intermingled so much over the centurays. Some similaritys in fighting styles were developed on opesit sides of ther earth while some traded information as they continue to do today.
No martial art is ever complete there is always more to be learned. No martial art is necasarly better than any other they were all devoleped by tough men who used them to survive but what worked well for some of those men might not work well for you or me.
If one wants to become the best fighter they can be then they should study a number of styles and take from each of them what works best for them. If you trap yourself into only one style then you weaken yourself no matter how good the style.
p.s. there is evendence that in indea they have been trying to rewrite history to claim all martial arts came from there so they can claim that prestige but there hardly the first country to try this.
