To clarify a point in my earlier post, I forgot to rightly mention Shobayashi as a current form of Shorin Ryu. That then leaves four legit branches of “othodox” Shorin ryu, Shobayashi, Kobayashi, Matsubayashi, and the one I study Matsumura Seito. Plus the one bastardized form, Uchuno Shorin Ryu (headed up by a student of Kuda, Bill Rankin. Plus I’m shure many other little schools around the country.

And to answer a qwuestion that was asked “ryu” means “style”. So Shorin Ryu is actually Shorin style in English. And a further note is Shorin means “pine forest” or “shaolin” in chinese, and has ancient roots in the Chinese martial art of the Shaolin Temple (an ancient form of hard style Kung Fu….not Wu Shu).
