One more thing that wasan’t mentioned, is there is no “L” sound in Japaneese, so Shaolin (Sil Lum in Cantoneese)is actually pronounced “Sahow-rin”. But thanks to the westernization of the word, we now have the present pronounciation. Also, Shorin Ryu is more like Gung Fu when you look into it (hence its Chineese influence). I took Gung Fu as my first asian art, then TKD, Kempo, and finally JKD (in Oakland/Berkely,Ca), and The White Crane forms are straight out of the Shaolin Temple. As I’ve stated in my Capoeria statements, and my nephew in the JKD column; in the beginning, most Asian arts look similiar, and in the end, they look similiar.
Peace,
