Sumo is a sport but definately not a martial art. Sumo wrestlers are not fighters and cannot take a punch (or a kick…watch the very first UFC and you’ll see). Other sports such as American football are not regarded as martial arts, even though fighter Bob Sapp is a former pro-football player.
