TKD is weak, but my comparison was drawn against Thai Boxing, if you remember. Do you see the Koreans taking home wins in Thailand? NO! Why? Because they can’t compete with Thai fighters and they know it. However, I will concede that TKD will beat fat people who don’t know how to fight and are unconditioned. But TKD guys are dead in the water against guys who train to fight, as all true Thai boxers do. You talk about being “crumpled” from “stepping kicks.” Go watch a Lumpinee fight and explain why three rounds and 30 “teeps” (our “stepping kicks”) later, no one’s crumpled.
And the airborne kicks! You really believe that stuff works? Do you know why modern Muay Thai has discarded so much of its jumping, pretty Muay Boran stuff? Modern Thai boxers are too fast! That’s straight from Ajarn’s mouth. Try to jump-fly-whoopy-doopy-kick a Thai boxer and get swatted like a mosquito. TKD knees and elbows are not Thai knees and elbows, they were pirated from Thai boxing and unsuccesfully incorporated. (The only guys who have stolen these techniques and had any luck with them are the Kyokushin guys. Master Oyama was so frustrated after repeated losses in Thailand that he followed the old adage “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.”)
If I am too doubtful of TKD then you are too enamoured of it, perhaps even deluded. “Stun the face” with a jab?! He will cover “his now tender face” as the TKD throws a cross into his abdomen?! You really are confused, my friend. You can wail away all day on a Thai boxer with your “stunning” jab and cross to the body. He’s still going to punish you with a knee in the face, which is why Thai boxers don’t even try that one. They leave it to Muay Sakhon (international boxing).
Kicks to the ankles are a nice idea, but you will be a gift to any competent Thai boxer when he sees you go that low.
If you’re going to respond to this, please keep it under 10,000 words and keep it relevant to the Muay Thai vs. TKD. I already said you guys can beat fat people and grannies, that’s not being disputed.
