i have been a longtime practitioner of hsing-i and chen style tai chi. both arts use the same techniques in different ways. a only a fool would or someone who knows nothing of tai chi wouldn’t consider it a martial art. in my school we practice tai chi as a martial art–not as some new age meditation exercise. every single technique is both the slow and fast sets have martial applications. only the untalented or unknowing don’t appreciate the martial efficacy of tai chi. chen style especially has locks, throws, strikes, kicks, and dian xue. and i have used tai chi in more than one self defense situation, so i know it works.
