Both Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do both came from Chung Do Kwan, which was created in 1944 by Great Grandmaster Won Kuk Lee, it is true that the original name was Tang Soo Do, BUT in 1965 he felt of honoring one of its greatest influencial martial arts to Chung Do Kwan, Taekkyon. But there was a lot of dishonor about to the name of Taekkyon around that time, mostly asorted of selling of drugs and women. Won Kuk Lee wanted to celebrate the forefather without the dishonor of its new reputation, hence the name Tae Kwon Do (way of the fist and foot).
