breathing is important in any style or physical activity for that matter. No more Uechi than anything else. There can not be a single most important aspect, but in Uechi centering and mastering the first meditative kata, Sanchin, is basis for everything else. It is certainly a solid style and through practice promotes solid, centered, immovable stances that will certainly condition your body to hurt when striking. A Significant aspect of Uechi and if I had to choose one thing that makes it stand out from other styles is its use of pressure points, low kicks versus high kicks and surgically proficient strikes with toes or “Shokan” (one knuckled fist) to strike a vulnerable pressure point. It is very practical for the street and close hand to hand “combat”. It is also useful for anyone regardless of size, as it focuses on technique and technical knowledge vs. bullying strength. Awesome, enlightening and fun for any age, strength or size… does amazing things for your own personal physical conditioning! and uh yeah, if I could bring it to Jersey I sure would. It does dominate New England and California, oh, and yeah parts of Florida where all the original U.S. Masters seem to be living as of late. Having been brought to the US in teh early 1960’s, the classics are all retiring down south frm Boston area… who could blame them.. but what a goldmine of talent can be found down there! OOOOh Rah.!
