I don’t believe that Kempo was Chinese. It was influenced by Chinese martial arts, which is why it’s considered to be a bastardtized version of it. Either way, Uechi Ryu came first.
To answer Steven, though, I’d have to say that there is not a single ‘most important’ part of this style, or any other. In order to effectively fight, striking, movement, whatever else you’d want to list, and so on, would have to be utilized with the proper balance.
