Wado practices nagasu (evasive movement) with some emphasis on irimi (entering the side of the opponent’s fighting structure), much like in aikido. In some wado dojo, tantodori and other such Shinto yoshin ryu Jujutsu drills are still practiced. One of Ohtsuka-meijin’s major contributions to modern martial arts was his set of kihon kumite kata, which are two-person forms that help apply the solo kata patterns. Essentially, a step between solo kata and jiyu kumite (free sparring).
